Syrup: In a small saucepan, combine water, marmalade, cinnamon stick, star anise, and vanilla bean. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Turn heat off and cool.
Pour cooled mixture through a sieve into an airtight container. Discard solids. Drink mix can be refrigerated for up to one month.
Drink directions: Fill a highball glass with ice. Add one ounce of prepared syrup and two ounces of orange juice to glass. Fill remainder of glass with sparkling water and stir gently using a long handled spoon. Add lemon juice to taste. Garnish with lemon and cinnamon stick.
Yields approximately 8 servings.
