How to Make
- Cut some of the orange crepe/tissue paper down to size, wrap it around the jar, and tie it off with twine. After that, cut the top down if need be, and tie the twine around the straw to attach it.
- Either use your cutting machine to cut out my jack-o-lantern templates, or print off the designs and cut out the shapes. Use hot glue to adhere the jack-o-lantern faces to the front of the jar.

On a beautiful summer’s day nothing is more enjoyable than setting out for a picnic, away from the crowds, under the shade of a large tree with a basket of delicious food. There’s something very special about eating outside, and why not add charm to the occasion by serving up some of the food and drink in Bonne Maman jars?

Storing pre-made bouquet garni in a sealed container is key to prolonging freshness and aromatic scents… naturally, a classic Bonne Maman jar is surely the most chic option.

Confit, for instance, can sound complicated but is really a simple, traditional method of storing fruit in a sugar syrup. Lemon confit, for example, is delicious and will keep refrigerated in its syrup for weeks. Many variations exist for adding a subtle, citrus dimension to many savory and sweet dishes. Whole or quartered lemons are great for savory dishes such as Moroccan tagines, while slices are perfect for decorating tarts and cakes – better yet, try them on a cheesecake with an added layer of our soft set Lemon Curd.
Here is a simple, sliced lemon confit version to try:
Heat oven to 300F
Make a sugar syrup by bringing 2.5 cups white sugar and 2 cups water to boil, simmer for 2 minutes until all sugar has dissolved.
Wash, trim, & thinly slice lemons – 5 or 6 depending on size – and remove seeds.
Lay slices, slightly overlapping, in rows on a baking sheet. Overlay with a sheet of baking paper on top – pricked all over to allow moisture to escape – and then cover whole tray with foil.
Bake for 50-60 minutes until slices are translucent. Remove foil and bake for a further 30-40 minutes until sugar is syrupy. Cool before using or storing in compote jar with syrup and a dusting of added sugar to taste / dress.

Crêpes are easy to make: simply cook a basic batter in a frying pan, fill it with your favorite flavor Bonne Maman Preserves or Jelly and you are set for a treat any time of the year!
Basic Crêpe Batter Recipe: Mix 2 well-beaten eggs, 1 ½ cups of milk or cream, 4 tablespoons of melted or whipped butter and 4 tablespoonfuls of sugar. Add a 1 ½ cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of baking powder. Stir until smooth. Spoon batter onto a pre-heated, buttered frying pan and cook until thin and crêpe begins to brown and can easily be folded over without breaking.

Scones with Bonne Maman® Preserves
Fresh-baked scones with our traditional fruit preserves are a delightful, simple treat.
Scones are wedges of traditional baked breakfast bread that are satisfying, delicious and perfect with our all natural fruit preserves.
Made from a batter of flour, sugar, baking powder, butter, milk or cream and eggs, scones are light and moderately sweet – making them ideal pallets for showing off the flavors of Bonne Maman!
Preserves can be used as a topping or mixed in with the batter and baked into scones for an even more flavorful version. Mixing the ingredients together properly is the key to making scones. It works best to hand mix the dough to avoid over mixing, which can make scones too hard or flaky. Fresh fruit, nuts and other flavorful items are great additions.
We suggest using Bonne Maman Blueberry and Strawberry Preserves, which add the sweet flavor of juicy berries. The combination of the preserves and fresh berries make for a sweet, fresh-tasting scone that’s light, fluffy and not too rich.
Bonne Maman Berry Scones
2 3/4 cups (11 1/2 ounces) All-Purpose Flour
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 cup cold butter
2 extra large eggs
3/4 cup heavy cream or milk
2 cups blueberries or chopped strawberries
½ Cup Bonne Maman Wild Blueberry and Strawberry Preserves
1 Jar of Bonne Maman preserves to use as topping
Combine the flour, sugar, salt and baking powder in a bowl. Cut butter into the flour until the mixture resembles crumbs.
In a separate bowl, beat two eggs until they’re light and airy. Add ¾ cup heavy cream or milk.
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir in the blueberries or chopped strawberries, and Bonne Maman Wild Blueberry and Strawberry Preserves. Mix the dough until it all comes together, being careful not to over mix.
Roll dough out to a thickness of 1 inch. Cut into rounds with fluted pastry cutters. Bake at 400°F for 15 minutes or until golden.
